On Monday the 12th of October a few members of level 5 and 6 managed to make it to the Teach-in hosted at the Victoria and Albert museum. This lecture by various guest speakers was held for designers with the aim to highlight the 2012 imperative and how we can change to more green methods before 2012. The 2012 imperative is basically the deadline we all have before the world inevitably starts to warm up and become affected dramatically by climate change. This lecture was a very long event it started at 10.00am and finished at 5.30pm with a few short breaks. The speakers highlighted frequently on what humanity has done to the environment but they rarely showed what could be helped. I went to this event hopeful of hearing what could be done to save the environment; I had hoped materials and building techniques would be discussed. But unfortunately like I mentioned before the speakers showed lots of depressing diagrams and images on what is inevitable and at the end of the lecture I think we all felt exhausted and slightly depressed. It almost felt as If the speakers were saying the environments almost a lost cause. As you can see the talk almost had the opposite effect on me, but the environment is something I feel strongly on and needs addressing and with more enthusiasm next time.
