Banksy vs Bristol Museum was my favourite exhibition that I saw over the summer and also the most successful, this exhibition which was secretive up until a few days before its opening brought in a record braking amount of visitors to Bristol Museum, since its opening on the 13th June to its closure on the 31st August the museum saw over 300.000 visitors at around 4,000 a day. I went to the exhibition a couple of times once in the first week where I basically walked straight in, but on the second visit I had to queue for about 3 hours and in that queue I saw people from all around the world. The exhibition was fantastic as it was free entry and photography was allowed every where except one room which had various paintings in and other Banksy memorabilia. Although the exhibition was no charge the city reportedly had over 10million pounds boost to its economy and the museum received £45,000 through donations. The reason why I add all these figures is because I strongly believe in the power of cultural events and the impact they have on a city. The museum still houses a few of Banksy’s works so check out the museum as well as the whole of Bristol as the Bristol area exhibits many of Banksy’s most famous works of art which have been left by the council after an overwhelming support by the locals and the recognition that graffiti can be art which has seen a massive affect on Bristol’s tourism.
