Oldbury PowerStation

Oldbury situated next to my home town of Thornbury which has fantastic country side backing on the River Severn has been chosen by Horizon Nuclear which is a joint corporation of E.ON. and RWE npower. as a new site for the continued use of nuclear power and has proposed a new PowerStation next to Oldburys 1967 plant. The construction could create up to 800 permanent jobs and 5,000 during construction but this visualisation by campaigners show what four 200m high cooling towers could look like. These hideous things will have such a huge impact on the local area and will have such a negative impact and effect on the towns that surround it as well as the wildlife in the area, and could have a devastating impact on the River Severn. The towers are supposed to be the worst cause scenario and a group will be formed to negotiate with Horizon Nuclear to try and comprise a better outcome. I find this news so upsetting, and think Horizon Nuclear seems so lazy, lacklustre and will almost set this country back 40 years in its energy development if this goes forward, but we don’t have another 40 years to rectify this. I don’t understand how they can plan something so grotesque it’s almost as if they don’t care for the context of the site.

I will certainly keep you informed on this issue and if I can find a groups against the project will post links for you to go on below.
